Vajra

The modelling of Vajra was done in Maya, the ship had to be something new, different and had to be a design that was unseen before. In order to achieve this goal, the designer did some research for inspirations for the ships look. The outcome of the research was that the ship needed to look sleek and streamlined to make the ship look fast and agile. The ships main form of attack is to cut through enemy ships, so the idea to incorporate the vajra weapon into the design of the ship seemed appropriate.

The basic design of the ship needed to look like it can cut through enemy ships hulls, there it had to look like it can pierce through an object but at the same time, it can’t look comical.  To achieve this goal the designer decided to extend the lower half of the front of the ship so it makes it comes down like a blade. The idea behind it being that the bladed edges of the ship will be plasma, so they can cut through anything.

The project was assembled in unreal engine and recorded using the cinematics option, the color scheme used on the ship was chosen so the ship can stand out from the rest its surroundings as it is the focal point of this project. The matt red the designer felt would give the ship a more impactful look.

Vajra is a Sanskrit name for one of the godly weapons in Hinduism and it is regularly used in Buddhism too, the weapon usually takes the form of a thunder bolt in the hands of Hindu gods. The weapon also has another form, in this form it looks like a double sided four-pronged trident where the outer edge of the prongs being edged like a blade.

The idea to incorporate this weapon to ship was difficult, because the weapon is old and it needs to be incorporated into a futuristic ship. In order to achieve this the designer took inspiration from the pronged parts of the original model, and made them more elongated and blade like so the blades will envelop the ship. This made the ship meaner looking as it gave the ship this look, like it’s a machine that would cut through the enemy ships.
