Arthur Parsons
Head of Design at Tt Games in Knutsford
This week we had Arthur Parsons visit us at the university of Bolton, Arthur is the Head of Design at Tt Games in Knutsford. He had a very interesting presentation for us and I enjoyed his lecture because it was fun and interesting and it had Lego in it and you don’t get too old for lego even though it's in a presentation. Arthur talked about how the lego movies and games were approached with caution as no one had tried it before but to their surprise, both the games and they were a hit. This is where he said something that caught my attention ‘is the game fun to play is it enjoyable.’
“Fun, without fun there is no game. Fun is the most important ingredient in any video game and something that I always focus on. I always ask myself and the team would someone enjoy playing this puzzle, or this level, “is it fun?!?”.” (Parsons, n/d)
This is quite an interesting point because what is a game if it's not fun to play, I mean you can have thousands of games coming out every year but you only hear about a few because these are the games that people enjoyed playing. There is no denying that the lego games and movies are fun and entertaining but what about the other games how do you know if people are going to like the games or not? How will you know if the target audience will receive the game as you expected? This is where the localisation aspect comes into play as the experts at localisation will have a grasp of the target audience and how they will react to the product, therefore, ensuring that the game can be received well by the audience.
